H Beam Plasma Profile Cutting Robot Machine

What cutting forms can an H beam plasma coping robot produce?

The YOMI YM-XH series cuts every end-preparation form a structural shop needs in one setup on H beams, I beams, channels and angles: fixed-length straight cuts, fixed-length oblique cuts, end sockets (copes), over-welded holes, web shaped tracks, and single or double-sided bevels up to plus/minus 45 degrees. Effective cutting length is 12 m and profiles up to 5,000 kg are supported, so a full-length beam is completely finished - copes, holes, bevels and cut-to-length - before it moves to assembly.

Can it cut weld access holes to AWS D1.1 and AISC geometry?

Yes. Weld access holes (cope holes) have strict geometry requirements under AWS D1.1 and AISC 360 J1.6: minimum length of about 1.5 times the flange thickness, minimum height that clears the flange-web fillet, and - critically - a smooth re-entrant radius with no sharp corners or notches, because sharp re-entrant corners are the stress raisers linked to moment-frame fractures. Because the YOMI controller generates tool paths from DXF/NC1 files with the access hole radius programmed in, every beam gets identical, notch-free geometry. Where AWS D1.1 specifies it, thermally cut access-hole surfaces are ground to bright metal and inspected (MT or PT) afterwards.

Why does the machine bevel at plus/minus 45 degrees, and when do I need it?

Beveling creates the V-groove edge preparation required for full-penetration (CJP) groove welds on thick flanges and butt splices. Cutting the bevel in the same pass as the cope eliminates a separate grinding or machining station. With the Hypertherm XPR300A plasma source, the YOMI machine pierces and cuts material up to 45 mm thick, so single- and double-sided bevels on heavy flanges are produced directly - in the standard demonstration on a 340 x 250 mm beam, a sequence of single and double-sided bevels, over-welded holes and a web shaped track completes in about 8 minutes at 170A (process 1152, air + oxygen).

Does plasma cutting harden the edge, and is a plasma-cut edge weldable?

Plasma cutting does create a narrow heat-affected zone, but on correctly set fine-plasma parameters the HAZ is thin and the edge is directly weldable - millions of plasma-prepared beam ends are welded to AWS D1.1 every year. Three practical rules: run the recommended cut speed and torch height (a slow cut widens the HAZ and leaves dross), use the machine's process database for the actual gas and current (XPR300A air + oxygen process numbers are loaded automatically), and on high-strength or heavy sections, follow your WPS for preheat and grind thermally cut surfaces where the specification calls for it. Automated plasma also gives far more consistent edges than hand cutting, which is what inspectors actually care about.

What edge quality and accuracy does the machine achieve?

Cutting accuracy follows ISO 9013-2002 and ISO 8206-1991 (plus JB/T10045.4). Length accuracy is plus/minus 1.5 mm over a 12 m effective length, cutting speed is 10-2,000 mm/min, and travel speed is up to 6,000 mm/min. On square cuts the XPR300 fine plasma produces smooth edges with minimal angularity, ready for welding or painting. For repeated verification, shops cut a test piece per shift and check it against the profile gauge - the machine's laser measuring also compensates mill tolerances of the incoming beam so hole and cope positions stay accurate on rolled steel.

What consumables and gas supply does the Hypertherm XPR300A need?

The XPR300A runs on two gases: clean dry compressed air and oxygen (the demonstration process 1152 uses air + oxygen). Consumables are the electrode, nozzle and shield - on automated beam coping, plan on inspecting them daily at shift start and replacing the set on a roughly 200-cutting-hour cycle, or sooner if edge quality drops. Dry air is the biggest consumable-life factor: a refrigerated dryer can extend electrode and nozzle life by around 40%. Log arc starts rather than calendar time, keep one spare consumable kit on the shelf, and the cost per beam is trivial compared with the manual coping labor it replaces.

What fume extraction does a plasma beam coping line require?

Plasma cutting H beams produces fine metallic fume and needs engineered extraction. The standard approach is capture at the cutting station - a longitudinal slot duct running along the machine with a cartridge-filter unit, sized for the station's open face area - so fume is pulled away from the operator while the beam still sits on the roller conveyors. If you cut stainless steel, the extraction must include proper filtration because stainless fume contains hexavalent chromium. Check your local workplace exposure limits (OSHA PELs, EU directives or national equivalents) and size the filter unit for continuous cutting duty, not occasional use.

How long does it take from order to production?

Typical YOMI lead time is 30-45 days of manufacturing plus ocean freight, then 2-3 days on site for installation and commissioning by YOMI engineers: machine leveling, gas and power hookup, plasma process database setup, test cuts on your profiles, and operator training. Have ready before arrival: a level foundation along the machine's 12 m rail line, 380V three-phase power, the compressed-air and oxygen supply, and extraction ducting. With those prepared, most shops cut first production beams the same week the machine lands.
